As the geographic home of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, this cultural heritage site dating from the 16th century AD is being preserved and developed for tourism using UNESCO guidelines. The hot desert climate dictates that peak visitation to this open-air museum will occur at night; therefore, the exterior lighting master plan is designed to orient visitors and provide a safe and informative experience – all while protecting the integrity of the site by designing for a minimal infrastructural footprint. Innovative lighting solutions and state-of-the-art technologies dramatically illuminate the venerable character of ancient palaces and the city center of the first Saudi State.
