This urban, community oriented design project literally opens itself onto the city streets. Three large volumes comprise three studios in the larger wing, one of which subdivies into two teaching spaces with an operable acoustical curtain. Large expanses of glass visually connect the studios to the street below. By night the building becomes a lantern and energizes the neighborhood. The overall lighting design was based on providing even general illumination using stylized fluorescent high bay fixtures with multiple switched zones relating to the operable partitions and time of day function. Metal halide lamp sources on the exterior provide a crisp contrast to the typical city street standards.
