The National Zoo's Asia Trail consists of a network of walkways winding down through a valley. LED lighting integrated into handrails, fence posts, and stone walls creates a rhythm of light throughout the site while in-grade metal halide and fluorescent sources provide accents at key exhibit features. Conservation Plaza, a partially underground exhibit space utilizes custom fixtures for general and display lighting. The lighting design provides egress lighting for late-day visitors and adds to the strong identity of the exhibit once the sun begins to set.
